PUDUCHERRY: Former education minister S P Sivakumar has urged the government to bring in transparency in sponsoring candidates for admission to professional colleges through CENTAC.In a statement, he said the total number of seats in medical, engineering and other branches of study should be clearly specified along with the colleges concerned and under various reserved categories and should be put up on the CENTAC website as well as in newspapers. The government should specify its policy with regard to coverage of CENTAC-sponsored students under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Educational Assistance scheme. Sivakumar said that not only the fee structure would have to be put up but the admission process should be fully executed in the CENTAC office, without the student having to go to individual colleges to get the admission card. If any fee has to be remitted, it should be done at the CENTAC office. Not only that, during the second and third round of counselling, the vacant seat could then be filled up without any confusion or chaos, as experienced during the previous year. Sivakumar urged the government to directly approach the MCI.
