BANGALORE: Dust from paved road and soil, transport and diesel powered generator (DG) sets are found to be major pollution contributors in city, according to a study conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
The study carried in collaboration with Karnataka State Pollution Board (KSPCB) forms part of TERI's study to quantify the sources of air pollution in six major cities of the country Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur and Pune, conducted under the supervision of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF), said, Pranab Dasgupta, Director, TERI, Southern Region."Among the major contributors to PM 10 (Particulate Matter of less than 10 micrometer) were dust from paved road and soil, transport and DG sets. The share of transport sector has increased from 19 per cent to 50 percent. The contribution of DG sets was 13 per cent in PM 10 " he added.
