ROURKELA: The election to the posts of chairman in Nuagaon and Kuanrmunda blocks of Sundargarh district on Sunday saw nail-biting contests with the winners being declared through lottery. In the election for the 17 block chairman posts, BJD-supported candidates romped home in eight while Congress trailed closely with win in six blocks. Birmitrapur MLA George Tirkey-supported nominees won in two blocks and CPM-backed contestant in one. Reports said in Nuagaon block George’s nominee Sushila Topno and BJD’s Sushila Xalxo were tied at 10 votes each and Topno was declared winner through lottery. Similarly, in Kuanrmunda block George’s nominee Sushma Naik and BJD’s Magdali Kangali secured 10 votes each while fortune favoured Naik in the lottery.
