UP polls to decide India's fate: Mulayam
Mulayam Singh Yadav says the next year's Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh is the "most important" one.

Agra: Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday said that the next year's Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh is the "most important" one.

He added that it would decide the country's political future, in which the Samajwadi Party would play a major role.

He also refuted Congress President Sonia Gandhi's charge that her Lok Sabha constituency was being given step-motherly treatment and said "she is telling a lie".

"The fact is Rae Bareli is being given the best treatment after Lucknow," he said addressing public meetings at Kachauraghat and Payampura villages, about 60 kilometres from Agra.

It was likely the election would be conducted in seven stages similar to the recent West Bengal Assembly poll held in five phases and police and central paramilitary would be posted at every booth.

The Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to start making voters' idenity cards and called upon SP workers to "get ready for the election".

Speaking on the power crisis, he alleged that Haryana and Delhi were being given 4,000 Megawatts more power while the supply to Uttar Pradesh had been cut down. "This is a clear case of partiality," he said.
