KOCHI: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan’s son V A Arunkumar has approached the Kerala High Court challenging the Single Judge’s order to uphold the government decision for a Vigilance inquiry into various allegations by withdrawing an earlier order referring the case to the Lok Ayukta.Arunkumar, who was the Additional Director of the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), pointed out that the Single Judge’s order was illegal and should be set aside. He also sought a directive to stay the Vigilance inquiry against him.The Lok Ayukta had initiated action against Arunkumar during the tenure of the previous LDF Government. The then Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy had written a letter to the then Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan urging him to launch a probe into the foreign trips made by Arunkumar.Chandy also requested the Chief Minister to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations of Arunkumar being given out of turn promotion in IHRD by submitting fake certificates at the time of his PhD registration. Achuthanandan had handed over the letter to the Lok Ayukta for an inquiry.Chandy, who assumed the office of the Chief Minister, ordered a Vigilance probe into the allegations. The government also directed the Registry of the Lok Ayukta to take steps to withdraw the petition pending before the Lok Ayukta.
