CHENNAI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko has no locus standi to question the orders of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal confirming the ban on the LTTE in India, the Tamil Nadu government said in its counter affidavit filed in the Madras High Court, on Monday. The counter, filed on behalf of the Public Secretary, pointed out that the Tribunal, while rejecting Vaiko’s plea to hear him on the issue, had held that he (Vaiko) was not an affected party and hence had no locus standi. The central government also in its counter filed earlier stated that Vaiko had no locus standi to challenge the Tribunal’s order. The State would prefer to adopt the counter already filed by the Union government, the counter said. A division bench of the High Court comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and N Kirubakaran adjourned the matter till April 9.
