CHENNAI: MDMK founder Vaiko and Tamil Nationalist Movement president Pazha Nedumaran have scheduled a one-day token fast on November 5 at Idinthakarai seeking permanent closure of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP).In a statement on Monday, Vaiko said that at a meeting presided over by Pazha Ne-dumaran at People’s Watch, a human rights NGO, it was decided to observe a token fast at Idinthakarai village as well as at the headquarters of all the Southern districts.“It is unwise to proceed with the project when the world is learning through the Fukushima incident. People are protesting because they know that it is going to affect their livelihood,” Vaiko said. “Because of such a derogatory approach, those who wish to safeguard the interests of Tamils have been forced to take up the stir,” he said and appealed for similar protests elsewhere.
