We are talking about actress Sridevi, who delivered a stellar performance in Yash Chopra’s 1989 film Chandni. This reportedly saved his production house from getting closed. The veteran filmmaker revealed in a series that due to the failure of his four films, he was left with no money in his bank account.
According to reports, as his production house was about to get shut, Yash Chopra approached Sridevi with the story of Chandni. At that time, she was at the peak of her career and her involvement in any film significantly increased its chances of success. Sridevi agreed to do the film and supported the legendary director during his difficult time. The reports suggested that Chandni was made with a budget of around Rs 8 crore. The film recorded a massive box-office collection of Rs 27.2 crore. This success saved Yash Chopra from bankruptcy.
The film also stars popular actors like Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Waheeda Rehman, Anupam Kher, Sushma Seth, Beena Banerjee, Mita Vashisht, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Juhi Chawla, Bharat Bhushan and Suhas Joshi. The story was penned by Kamna Chandra, while the dialogues were written by Sagar Sarhadi. The cinematography department was handled by Manmohan Singh and editing was done by Keshav Naidu.
