THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presented the Vayalar Ramavarma Sahitya Award to K P Ramanunni at a function held here on Thursday, on the death anniversary of Vayalar. Ramanunni received the award for his book ‘Jeevithathinte Pusthakam’. Hailing Vayalar as ‘’a timeless poet”, the Chief Minister expressed happiness at the rise of young talents in Malayalam literature. The ceremony was presided over by author M K Sanu. A tribute in verse was paid to the legendary poet with a recital of his famous poems. Veteran poet O N V Kurup welcomed the gathering on behalf of the Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust. The award comprises a purse of Rs 25,000, citation and statuette. The Chief Minister also presented the Vayalar Ramavarma scholarship to M N Silpa who scored the highest marks in Class X with Malayalam as main subject from Asan Memorial School, Chennai. The award ceremony was followed by ‘Gananjali’ a music concert comprising the popular poems penned by Vayalar.
