VELLORE: A day after a clash broke out between two groups of devotees who were carrying idols of Lord Vinayaka,  tension continued  in the district on Sunday. The police had to use force to separate the angry devotees, who were engaged in a brawl. They were taking the idols for the traditional immersion at Sadhuperi Lake as part of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival. The chaos is said to have started outside the mosque in Konavattam when some people objected to the playing of instruments in the procession.As arguments escalated between the two sides, stones were thrown. Reports said that two people were also attacked in the chaos. After about 100  people from the surrounding areas joined the dispute, the police called in reinforcements from near by Ambur, Katpadi, Vellore and Gudiyatham.  Police also ordered armed units onto the streets of Vellore on Saturday night. Similar tension was reported in Urayur Pandamangalam Panicker Street, Ramanadhapuram. Police continued their vigil in the town on Sunday morning.
