KOCHI: Kochi Corporation will seek legal action against the agency that dumped a container full of chicken feet at the lake near Edakochi if it does not remit the fine within the stipulated time. The authorities concerned said that the search was on to find out whether the agency had hidden similar containers in their godowns here. The decision in this regard was taken after a private agency dumped two containers full of chicken feet in the Edakochi lake and Pashnithodu canal the other day. The chicken feet, which is not considered a consumable item here, is having a high demand in Taiwan and China. The dim-sum style chicken feet is one of the favourite dishes of the people of Taiwan. The containers are said to be exported by a well-known seafood exporting company in Kochi about six months ago. But the agent in Hong Kong refused to unload the shipment due to some difference of opinion regarding the payment. There were 44.8 tonne chicken feet and their price in the Chinese market is estimated at Rs 14 lakh. The containers have been sent back to Kochi. The containers with chicken feet were kept at a godown for more than five months where it got decayed. “We have already issued notice to MOL, the agency in Willingdon Island, and levied Rs 50,000 fine,” said Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee chairman T K Ashraf. He denied the reports that the company had tried to dispose of the chicken feet at the Brahmapuram Solid Waste Treatment Plant. “They have not tried to dump the chicken feet at Brahmapuram. We have already removed the waste from the lake and buried it. Now we will recover the expenses from the agency. Strong action will be taken against the agency that dumped the waste at the lake,” Ashraf said.
