Kolkata: The angry outburst of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya against CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday brought into focus the sharp differences within the ruling Left Front and its major partner CPI-M.

Former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu has expressed his disapproval for the comments made by Buddhadeb and two senior ministers have also criticised the CM for the remarks.

Expressing surprise at Bhattacharya terming Dalmiya an 'evil force', the veteran leader said that the CAB president had won the election in a democratic way.

He said the matter would be discussed at a party meeting on Friday.

Two senior ministers in the Bhattacharya Cabinet, Sports Minister Subhash Chakraborty and PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami also criticised the Chief Minister for his comments.

Chakraborty said, "Will everything happen as the Chief Minister wishes? Sometimes there is bound to be a change."

Goswami said, "Wins and losses should be accepted in a sportsman-like manner. I do not think that there was ever an evil empire in the CAB."

CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose, however, avoided making a comment and re-affirmed the party's stand that it would not meddle in sports matters.

Bose said he would talk to Bhattacharya on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister had said the re-election of Dalmiya as CAB president was 'a victory of evil over good'.

"So far I'm concerned I'll not compromise with this man. The battle will continue. I want him to leave this post. I want him to leave the organisation," Bhattacharya said.
