Samsung and Google would show off the next version of Android and the next version of Nexus S smartphone.

New Delhi: It was to be unveiled on October 11, but Samsung has delayed the unveiling of its top of the line phone dubbed Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Nexus Prime in deference to Steve Jobs' death.

Samsung's new flagship phone was slated to be showcased at Mobile Unpacked 2011. Rumours are abound that the new date for the launch is now October 27. Samsung, however, has dismissed it. "Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for October 11. Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We ask for your understanding regarding any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course," said the South Korean electronics giant said in a blog post.

The invite initially sent to the press prompted speculations that Samsung and Google would show off the next version of Android, Android 4 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as the next version of the Nexus S smartphone.

A short video showing off the new Samsung device as well as the latest Android version was leaked online. The 88-second long video gives what is yet the most detailed public preview of the forthcoming device and the latest Android OS.

Expectedly, the technology universe is abuzz with speculations of what all the new device and the new OS will include. Here's a brief overview:

Android Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to combine Honeycomb (Android 3.0) with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) into one OS. There are some changes expected in the user interface. The icons are believed to be a lot cleaner and the new OS will do away with the the requirement for Android phones hardware buttons which can be moved on to the screen.

Much like the new iPhone 4S and iOS 5, Nexus Prime users can go directly to the camera app right from the lock screen.

Rumoured specs in which the Samsung Galaxy Nexus aka Nexus Prime aka Galaxy S III scores over the Galaxy SII:

- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

- 4.65-inch 1280x720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass

- 32GB of built-in storage

- NFC

- 1750mAh battery
