BHUBANESWAR: The increasing trend of ‘indecent’ activities in the parks of the Capital city has drawn the attention of the Orissa State Commission for Women. Following allegations of facilitation of such activities inside the Ekamra Kanan park and Jaydev Vatika, the Commission has taken upon itself to curb the disturbing trend in such public facilities by developing a long-term strategy involving all stakeholders. The move comes in the wake of Valentine’s Day incidents at Ekamra Kanan when couples in the park were in the face of the self-styled moral police Bajrang Dal. The police raids on the park on the day had also brought to the fore the extent of unwarranted activities at the recreation ground. The police had seized condoms from the precincts of the park. The developments over the recent days have revealed an unhealthy trend that is taking the youngsters in its grip. The parks are public places, which should be kept free from such activities, Chairperson of OSWC Jyoti Panigrahi said.“We intend to involve all stakeholders from the authorities of the parks, the departments concerned, police and public to evolve long-term solution to the problem,” she added. The Commission would soon hold meetings with different sections on the issue to chart out a course of action, she said.
