BANGALORE: Engineers working with Public Works Department (PWD) took part in a workshop on rainwater harvesting (RWH) on Thursday, with just a month left for government buildings in the city to adopt RWH.Nodal officers for RWH conducted the workshop upon a request from PWD.Engineers from across the state took part in the programme. It was held to ensure that the technical knowledge is imparted at the root level as PWD engineers are behind the construction of the most of the Government- owned buildings in the state.Their questions ranged from different types of RWH models and their adaptability to different geographical areas and architectures.“Some engineers wanted to know if there were any solutions to constant blocking of the channels by leaves, twigs and stones which eventually prevent flow of water into the well and [it] dries up. Another engineer asked about how natural filters suitable to their area could be installed to generate and store clean water,” says BWSSB project officer and nodal officer for RWH, Virupakshi Mysore. While nodal officers explain that they are receiving several queries now as the deadline for RWH implementation is near, it will be a Herculean task indeed to meet the deadline.
