New Delhi: Top CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury has criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's vitriolic comments against new Cricket Association of Bengalchief Jagmohan Dalmiya.
"There can be no party line when it comes to eating a hilsa of the Ganges or the Padma river,".said Yechury describing Bhattacharjee's comments as "personal views."
Polit Bureau member Yechury made the statement on Wednesday in a jocular vein while responding to questions on the issue at a press conference.
Interestingly, Yechury, a 'Telugu bidda' (boy), made the statement in Bengali, with scribes immediately demanding a translation.
"There cannot be a party line on every issue, whether it is food or sport. He may be the Chief Minister or a Polit Bureau member, but he is an individual. Don't connect these two aspects," said the Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal.
Asked about Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's walkout over the issue in Lok Sabha, Yechury said her move reflected "bankruptcy of ideas as she has nothing else to raise, whereas the Left parties are seeking discussion on major issues every day".
