Milan Fashion Week continued with a second day of catwalk shows on Thursday, February 25, including a vibrantly colorful autumn/winter preview from Fendi. As usual, elegance and fur were firmly on the agenda, but Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi brought a cool, funky vibe and a fresh feel to this season's collection.
The show's funky undertone was felt even before the first models took to the catwalk, as two eye-catching guests -- Piro-chan and Bug-kun -- were attracting attention on the front row. These brightly colored furry mascots, inspired by Japanese Manga characters, gave the audience a taste of what was to come.
The tone of the collection was set from the very first catwalk look, showcasing the season's main inspirations right from the outset in one ensemble. This was modeled by none other than Kendall Jenner, kicking off Fendi's festivities with a mid-length coat in a dark blue shade that was seen in many of the collection's pieces, along with the pastel blue of her thigh boots. This opening look was finished with a two-tone fur stole and frill-effect bracelets, channeling another major theme for the collection.
Making waves
Fur remained the biggest trend in the Autumn/Winter show, seen in brightly colored pieces, with embroidered detail -- sometimes as fringing -- or in multicolored panels. However, ruffles, frills and waves were another key theme for Fendi's collection, adorning boots, shoes, accessories and clothing, sometimes in small touches and in a lavish flounce.
Fendi's frills seemed to form waves over the collection's silhouettes, a feeling reinforced by the use of stripes, flowing in horizontal and wavy lines.
The collection's color palette brought a vibrant feel to the show, livening up the autumn/winter catwalk with mustard yellow, orange, various shades of blue, purple, satiny bronze and coral shades.
Denim also featured in Fendi's autumn/winter collection, along with plant-inspired patterns and embroidery, particularly on semi-sheer dresses twinned with frills and stripes.
Milan Fashion Week continues Friday, February 26, with catwalk shows from Diesel Black Gold, Emporio Armani, Etro and Versace.
