The memory of the rapper, who was tragically killed in Las Vegas in 1996, will be honored with the opening of a pop-up restaurant in New York April 7-9.
Tupac Shakur was not just a rapper. The East Coast artist sketched out pages of ideas for a café where his friends could "escape the worldz cold reality." He named the project Powamekka Café.
Over 20 years after his passing, his plans have become reality in New York. In collaboration with Bravado, a Universal Music brand, the Powamekka Café will be housed in Sweet Chick, a Lower East Side restaurant which is famous for its waffles, burger and fries, and chicken. The Tupac-inspired café will open for three days, April 7-9. It will serve his favorite food including meatloaf, okra, and his cousin Jamala's fried chicken wings.
Most importantly, the restaurant will pay homage to the rapper through a collection of his childhood photos, poetry and music memorabilia from his favorite artists.
This is not the first time a restaurant has celebrated Tupac's life. Last September, a similar tribute was paid to him in California, on the 20th anniversary of his death. Several hundred people waited for hours to take part in the event.
