A Look At Legendary Actor Morgan Freeman's Family Tree
Freeman admitted he was busy with his aspirations to become an actor, which left him with no room for familial responsibilities during his youth.

Known for his powerful performances and distinctive voice that has been leaving an impact for over five decades in Hollywood, Morgan Freeman needs no introduction. While most of us are familiar with his impressive filmography, few know about his role as a father. Freeman is a father of four and a grandfather to many. Freeman became a father in the 1960s. His first child, a son named Alfonso, was born in 1959 with Loletha Adkins. Freeman, however, was not present during Alfonso’s upbringing, as he was focused on building his acting career. He admitted in a 2014 interview with The Telegraph that fatherhood didn’t immediately change him. He was absorbed in his aspirations to become an actor, which didn’t leave much room for familial responsibilities during his youth.

His second son, Saifoulaye, was born in 1960 to a different mother, whose identity remains private. During this period, Freeman was primarily focused on his career, leading to a less hands-on approach in his children’s early years, informs People.

In 1967, Freeman married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. From this marriage, he had two more children, Deena and Morgana. Deena was Bradshaw’s daughter from a previous relationship, whom Freeman adopted. They also had a biological daughter, Morgana, together. Freeman’s marriage to Bradshaw ended in 1979. However, he continued to play a major role in the lives of his children and grandchildren after that.

Freeman has expressed pride in his large family and informed the People that he has 14 grandchildren. Here’s all we know about the legendary actor’s children.

Alfonso Freeman, 64

Alfonso Freeman, Freeman’s firstborn, was mostly raised by his mother, Loletha Adkins. Alfonso reportedly grew up unaware of his father’s identity, despite watching him on television in shows like The Electric Company. It wasn’t until Alfonso was 19 that he began corresponding with Freeman, and they met in person two years later. The meeting was a mix of emotions, but ultimately, Alfonso embraced his father.

Alfonso pursued a career in acting, appearing in films like The Shawshank Redemption and Se7en, both featuring his father. His most notable role came in The Bucket List, where he played Freeman’s on-screen son. Alfonso has been married twice and has three sons with his first wife, Cynthia Gafford.

Saifoulaye Freeman, 63

Little is known about Saifoulaye Freeman, Freeman’s second child. Born in 1960, Saifoulaye has maintained a private life, and details about his mother remain undisclosed. He was notably absent from the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Freeman received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Deena Adair, 60

Deena Adair became Freeman’s stepdaughter when he married Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. Freeman adopted Deena, despite legal hurdles at the time. Deena pursued a career in Hollywood, not as an actress but as a hair and makeup artist, often working on her father’s films. Her credits include Amistad, Bruce Almighty and The Dark Knight.

Deena’s daughter, E’dena Hines, was raised by Freeman and his second wife, Myrna Colley-Lee. Tragically, E’dena was murdered in 2015.

Morgana Freeman, 52

Morgana, Freeman’s youngest child, was born in 1971. Morgana has appeared with her father at several red-carpet events, including the Academy Awards and the premieres of Batman Begins and Oblivion.

Morgana attended Spelman College, where she studied economics. She later pursued cosmetology and owned two salons in Georgia. According to People, currently, she serves as the executive director of the Tallahatchie River Foundation, a nonprofit focused on improving early childhood education in Mississippi.
