Oprah Winfrey made history as she became the first African American woman to be honoured with Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 75th Golden Globes. The entertainment mogul won hearts as she delivered an impassioned speech in support of those who have exposed sexual misconduct in Hollywood and beyond. Actress, movie and television producer, and chief executive of her own cable channel, Winfrey, 63, was celebrated as a role model for women and a person who has promoted strong female characters at the event.
Her honor came in a year which was dominated by a scandal that saw the downfall of dozens of powerful men as women broke years of silence.
Winfrey, who along with most of the show’s other attendees donned a black gown to mark a protest against sexual misconduct joining the likes of Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand and Sophia Loren.
Winfrey used her eloquent words as a tool to praise women who have shared their stories and to declare that "a new day is on the horizon." While her entire speech could become a chapter on empowerment, here are 12 key quotes delivered by the woman of the event.
She started her acceptance speech with Sidney Poitier's Best Actor Award win at the 36th Golden Globes...
And went on to inspire little girls and women, just the way she got inspired in 1964...
One powerful line in support of the Press in today's time...
After all one revelation opened up the pandora box for the likes of Harvey Weinstein last year...
When she remembered, honored and respected those who were forced to remain silent...
TIME'S UP!
When she made sure to tell the world that the fight has just started...
When she passed the baton of hope to all those who've suffered and/or suffering...
May the 'Hope' be with you...
And ended it with a hope of a world where no woman has to say 'Me Too' again...
She came. She Spoke. She Conquered. Indeed, Oprah is not just a name but an emotion that has and will continue to inspire people and particularly women to shine despite all odds.
All hail Queen Oprah!
