Anil Kapoor, who has been married to Sunita Kapoor for 40 years, recently shared some details about their relationship at an event in Jaipur. He said that Sunita chose to be a stay-at-home mom, but it was her personal decision, not because of him. She also made it clear that after they married, she wouldn’t bring any jewellery from her family, insisting he would have to buy everything.
At the FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter, Anil recalled how Sunita used to decorate their home with flowers in the early years of their marriage. He admitted he didn’t notice her efforts at first, but later appreciated how beautifully she decorated the house when he returned home from shoots. He eventually asked her about it. “Since I married her, the whole house would be decorated whenever I came back from shooting outdoors. She always told me, ‘I am not doing it for you. I am doing it for myself. I look after myself not for you, I do it for myself. Don’t be mistaken that I am taking care of the house for you, I am doing it for myself’,” he said.
Anil shared that Sunita was working when they met and made it clear she wouldn’t take money or expensive gifts from her parents for the wedding. He recalled her saying, “She told me before the marriage, ‘When I will come to your home after marriage, I will come with one set of clothes and I won’t bring any jewellery with me. Whatever it is, you will have to buy it for me.”
In May, Anil and Sunita celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, Anil shared some unseen wedding photos and a touching message for Sunita. He called her his “rock” and remembered their 11 years together before marriage, plus the 40 years they have been married. Anil recalled all the memories they created, describing their marriage as a journey of adventures and challenges, all tied together with love and respect..
