Actress Namitha is a famous face in the world of Indian film industry. She recently shared about an incident she faced during her visit to Meenakshi Temple, Madurai. According to media reports, she was questioned about religion and asked to show a certain certificate to prove the same. The actress expressed her disappointment in front of media officials and also posted about the incident on her social media post.
Speaking to the media, Namitha shared that she has visited many temples across the country but has never experienced such humiliation. She voiced her concerns, pointing out that if well-known individuals like her face this kind of treatment, it raises serious questions about how other tourists from different states and countries are treated at the temple. “Until this morning, I had never heard of a Hindu Certificate. I’ve been to numerous temples and was never asked to provide such a document,” Namitha stated.
A senior official of the temple authority denied the accusations levied by the actress. He mentioned that they stopped the actress and her husband as they were wearing masks. They were allowed after enquiring if they were Hindus. “After the clarification from them, she was claimed with kumkum on her forehead and taken inside the temple for a darshan of Goddess Meenakshi,” he said.
Namitha also posted a video on Instagram speaking about the things she faced. She captioned it, “For the very first time, I felt alienated in my own country and my place that I needed to prove myself as a Hindu! It’s not about that I was asked about it, but instead HOW I was asked about it. Very Rude and Arrogant officer and his One Assistant too. I request P. K. Sekar Babu ji to take necessary actions against this officer perhaps I am wrong about the officer’s name. Heartfelt thanks to the IS police team for helping us to have a darshan and safe return.”
She will be seen in the upcoming film Fire, under the direction of Basheed S.K. It also stars popular actors like Monica, Sandhya and Rishi.
