Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, have been waiting for the release of her 11th studio album with bated breath ever since the announcement during her Grammy acceptance speech in February. Now only one day is left for the release of The Tortured Poets Department. Instagram and Threads joined the hype of the album’s release as they added easter eggs and special features on both social networking platforms. Upon visiting Swift’s Instagram account, one may notice a countdown clock at the top of her profile, indicating the time remaining until her album’s release. While the countdown clock may not be immediately visible to some users, simply pulling down the page to refresh it will reveal the clock.
When one clicks on the countdown clock a special box appears that says, “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT is almost here! Celebrate the new album by joining the conversation on Threads!” This further leads fans to Swift’s Threads account. On Threads, two more easter eggs are awaiting the fans. All conversations with hashtags like #TTPD, #The Tortured Poets Department, #Tortured Poets, #TSTTPD, #Swifties, or #Taylor Swift are enhanced with a special shimmer effect. Additionally, while liking a post that has any of these tags, celebratory hearts appear.
Swift is known for dropping easter eggs (hidden messages) before the release of her songs and new projects. On April 14, she posted a photo with a vinyl version of her upcoming album. The caption of the picture read, “I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all.” Eagle-eyed fans were quick enough to assume that these lines could be a lyric from one of the songs featured in the album.
The Tortured Poets Department will be Swift’s first release after October 2022’s Midnights, which bagged Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2024 Grammys. Swift wrote the album with her long-time collaborators, producers Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. The album has 16 tracks and features collaborations with the American rapper Post Malone and the English indie rock band Florence and the Machine. The physical copies of The Tortured Poets Department come in four different variants The Manuscript, The Bolter, The Albatross and The Black Dog. Each album variation comes with bonus tracks.
