Legendary Pakistani actor Talat Hussain passed away on Sunday, May 26, after a prolonged illness, confirmed by Pakistani film director and editor Arsalan Khan on platform X. Sharing the news of his passing, Khan wrote, “One of the finest actors of Pakistan, Talat Hussain breathed his last today. May Allah grant him the highest ranks in Jannah. Aameen.” Born on September 18, 1940, Talat was a renowned actor known for his roles in critically acclaimed TV dramas, movies, and stage plays. He is well-known for his roles in “Arjumand,” “Ansoo,” “Bandish,” “Des Pardes,” “Tariq Bin Ziad,” “Eid ka Jora,” “Fanooni Latifey,” “Hawain,” and more. He is survived by his wife, Professor Rakhshanda Hussain, and their three children — two daughters and one son.
The legendary actor studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) in 2021 and the Pride of Performance Award by the Government of Pakistan in 1982. Fans, politicians, and fellow performers expressed their condolences on social media following his death. Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged his significant contributions to radio, theater, and television, noting his irreplaceable role in the industry. Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani praised his lasting impact on the arts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended condolences to the family of the late actor. Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) Karachi, confirmed his passing, mentioning his prolonged hospitalisation in Karachi. He wrote, “His services to the Pakistani television, theatre, film and radio will always be remembered. The vacuum left by his death can never be fulfilled.”
