Salman Khan Made Govinda Step Down From Judwaa For Him: 'Chalti Film Band Kar Di Gayi' | Viral

Govinda is one of the most prolific actors in the Hindi film industry with several hits like Coolie No 1, Raja Babu and Hero No 1 in his kitty. He was also the first choice for David Dhawan’s 1997 film Judwaa. However, Govinda revealed that Salman Khan called him and asked him to leave the film and give it to him instead. Govinda obliged and Salman went on to do a double role in what became one of the milestone films in his early career.

Govinda had earlier told Bollywood Hungama, “Uss time pe main Judwaa kar raha tha aur kisi din Salman (Khan) ne mujhe phone lagaya, 2-3 baje, aur kaha ki ‘Chichi Bhahiya aap kitni hit doge yaar?’ Maine bola kya hua? Woh bola ‘Woh jo picture aap kar rahe ho, Judwaa, woh aap band kar dijiye aur woh mujhe de dijiye. Director bhi aapko mujhe dena padega. Producer (Sajid Nadiadwala) bhi maine aap hi ka le liya hai’. Toh woh chalti film, wahan pe thehra di gayi hai, rok di gayi hai aur bandh kardi gayi. Aur woh Salman ko de di gayi thi.”

This clip has resurfaced on the microblogging site, Reddit, and has left fans wondering about Salman Khan’s influence. One person wrote, “I wonder, how Salman is so powerful in the industry, that too at a time when he was obviously not a bigger star than Govinda?”

Another added, “I would imagine part of it has to do with the fact that he is the son of the most powerful writer in the history of Bollywood. His dad commanded immense power and respect for a very long time.” One person added, “I was surprised when I found out that Judwaa was a Bhoi movie. It definitely fits Govinda more.”

However, this did not lead to any fights between the actors and they worked together in the 2007 film, Partner. Partner was also directed by David Dhawan and went on to become a huge hit. Govinda and Salman share a close relationship, as made evident by their banter during their public appearances.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Salman Khan was prepping for Karan Johar’s The Bull. However, the film has been shelved due to their differences. Salman is now working on Sikander and will be starring alongside Rashmika Mandanna in the film. The film is being directed by AR Murugadoss of Ghajini fame.
