Tim Burton will direct Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman remake with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.

Tim Burton, known for directing popular fantasy horror films like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, is set to direct a remake of 1958 film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. He will be joined by author Gillian Flynn, most known for writing Gone Girl, who will write the screenplay of the remake. The Warner Bros film will also have Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, and Kai Dolbashian as executive producers. The cast of the ambitious remake is unknown at the moment. The Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman was an independently made science fiction horror film directed by Nathan H. Juran with a modest budget, but it soon gathered cult status.

The film revolves around a wealthy heiress, played by Allison Hayes, who becomes a giant after an alien encounter. She then exacts revenge on her cheating and scheming husband, played by William Hudson and his mistress Honey Parker, played by Yvette Vickers.

Over the years, the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has undergone many spoofs and remakes. In 1993, HBO funded its remake under the same title. The remake was directed by Christopher Guest. Its script was written by Joseph Dougherty. Actor Daryl Hannah produced the film and also played the mainrole. Two years later in 1995, Fred Olen Ray produced a parody of the film, titled Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold. It starred J.J. North and Tammy Parks. The basic premise of the parody dealt with the side effects of a beauty product that made two models too tall. Then in 2012, Roger Corman made a 3D film titled Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader which was also based on a ‘beauty formula’ that turns varsity cheerleaders into giants.

Over the years many popular shows and cartoons like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Totally Spies, and Phineas and Ferb have also dedicated episodes based on the main plot of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. It will be interesting to see how Tim Burton and Gillian Flynn will remake the iconic film.

Currently, Burton is working on the sequel of Beetlejuice, which is expected to be released in theatres on September 6. Flynn is adapting her mystery novel Dark Places for a limited series at HBO. In 2018, she turned her 2006 thriller novel Sharp Objects into the HBO miniseries of the same name.
