Longest running international reality show 'Big Brother', on which desi version 'Bigg Boss' has been formatted, has been the very definition of low-brow content on TV.

The controversial reality show Bigg Boss which tops the chart in offering the daily dose of low brow drama for almost three months, will soon be on air. A bunch of brash contestants will find their way in the Indian living rooms. Inspired by immensely popular western reality show Big Brother, the Bigg Boss is rearing for the ninth season. Speculation over possible contestants in the house, has kept the loyal Bigg Boss fans engaged. What’s disappointing is that no prominent controversial name has emerged in the possible contestant list, so far. The initial list of controversial contestants included self proclaimed controversial Godwoman Radhe Ma, child star turned southern actress Sweta Prasad, rapper Honey Singh and Lebanese- American porn star Mia Khalifa. But, all these celebrities took to social media and denied being a part of Bigg Boss.

Longest running international reality show Big Brother, on which desi version Bigg Boss has been formatted, has been the very definition of low-brow content on TV. Going strong for more than a decade now, the show has never disappointed the audience in offering sufficient dose of voyeurism.

The contestants gearing up to enter the Bigg Boss house can take a crash course from the contestants of celebrity Big Brother, currently on air in UK and USA. The latest season of Big Brother is themed on clash between UK vs USA, housed by wannabe celebrities from the two countries. The contestants compete not just to win some big bucks but to be named either the Prime Minister or the President.

Steamy lip locking, erotic shows, issues of alcoholism, bickering and fighting and more, this show has all the essential ingredients that makes an engaging interface for a reality series. American reality show star Farrah Abraham, who shot to fame with reality show ‘16 and Pregnant’ as a teenage mom, has ensured that the madness in Big Brother remains intact. Farrah has already participated in an erotic show and has conducted sex education classes, inside the house, which has been widely discussed.

In its 17th season, the celebrity Big Brother has boasted of racy content, and the contestants have elevated the madness with each passing season. The risqué content and sexually explicit format of the show is suitable for the adult audience in the west.

Back in India, Bigg Boss has been rescheduled for a late night slot while the latest promos of the show suggest that there would be bolder content to attract the viewers. For the last several seasons, the show was slotted for prime time, thus, the content was edited and sanitised version suitable for the family audience. Season 9 is likely to have unapologetic, politically incorrect theme to keep the popularity intact and so it has been slotted in the 10.30 pm slot.

Salman Khan, confirmed being the host by tweeting ‘nine is mine’, and has promised to keep the humour and antics of the show intact, just as it did in the last six seasons. The theme this time is “pairing”, which intends to identify the Power Couple, among the dozen contestants. The show can touch the pinnacle of popularity, if the contestants start come up with brazen, uncouth and politically incorrect content which the controversial reality show has been famous for.

Taking a cue from the western versions, the channel can perhaps introduce contestants as bold as Veena Malik, Dolly Bindra, Rakhi Sawant and more. The unabashed portrayal of these wannabe celebrities made them infamous, but, offered the liberal dose of low brow entertainment and helped in boosting the ratings of the channels.
