In the era of the internet, going viral and getting public attention has become an easier process. Now and then, social media introduces us to songs that capture our attention instantly. If you’re a frequent user of social media apps, you’ve likely come across the latest trending song, Chor. Sung by Justh, a Chartered Accountant-turned-musical artist whose real name remains a mystery, started his musical journey in 2020 with his debut single. Despite performing at various venues, it was his 2023 song that gave a boost to his career and made him a familiar face in India. In a recent interview on the News18 show The Breakfast Club, the artist discussed the decision to keep his name a secret, the song’s meaning and hinted at future plans to venture into Bollywood.
Talking about the meaning and intent behind keeping his name a mystery, the artist explained, “For me, Justh is the name that I kind of created. It’s a non-existent word, it’s not a word in Hindi, Urdu or Sanskrit, it’s the word I created and I only gave the meaning. For me, it means a state of love and energy. There’s also a reason, Justh is a very new name, I don’t have problem to say my name, eventually people will find out, we’re living in digital age, for people to know the name of Justh, you have to put in a 2 minute effort, because it’s a new word.”
He further explained that for the past five years, his mother has been calling him Justh. Interestingly, he added that not only his mother but also his father and the entire family members have started referring to him by his stage name instead of his real birth name.
Just like his name, Justh has chosen to keep the meaning of the lyrics a closely guarded secret. When questioned about the interpretation of the song, he claimed that he had no intention of revealing his thought process or personal understanding behind the creation of Chor. Justh expressed that he feels satisfied when people do intellectual discussions about the song on platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
He adds, “It might sound cocky for a person who’s just like entered the game or whatever but I see my art to have a life of its own and I want it to survive say the next 500 or 1000 years at least, that’s the effort or the intent with which I’m making my music. I’m not making it for this week or for the trend of the month.”
Further, when asked about his plans to sing in Bollywood, Justh says, “I am a flowing river and I’ll see what life throws at me.”
Chor is currently smashing records and has emerged as the most viral song. Bollywood stars such as Sara Ali Khan and Madhuri Dixit created a reel using the song.
