Sandeep Reddy Vanga is known for sparking controversy, a trend that began with his debut film, Arjun Reddy. Whether he’s defending violence in romantic relationships or facing backlash for portraying misogyny and toxic masculinity in his movies, Reddy Vanga generates attention not just for his films but also for his outspoken statements. His recent project, Animal, is no different, stirring heated discussions online and becoming one of the most talked-about Bollywood movies this year. The hype behind Animal is also accentuated with the announcement of ‘Animal Park’, a sequel hinted in the post credits scene. Now Bobby Deol has revealed that he was not aware of Animal Park.
In a chat with the entertainment portal PinkVilla, Bobby shared that although there were just talks about a possible sequel, he had no idea that Sandeep Reddy Vanga had already shot it, “Mujhe kahaani nahi maloom tha, mujhe toh pata bhi nahi tha ki Animal Park bhi hai, kuch maloom nahi tha mujhe” (I didn’t know the story; I didn’t even know that there is an Animal Park. I had no idea about anything),” he stated.
Adding to that, Bobby Deol revealed, “Baatein toh hoti rehti thi ki film hit hogi toh sequel banaenge par mujhe kya maloom tha ki usne (Sandeep Reddy Vanga) already shoot karke rakha hua hai Animal Park” (There used to talk about making a sequel if the film becomes a hit, but little did I know that Animal Park has already been shot).”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal is on a steady roll at the box office. After recording an impressive opening weekend collection of Rs 201.76 cr, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal is performing well during the weekdays as well. The film passed the Monday test with a collection of Rs 43.96 cr, and it is now reported that Animal witnessed just a little drop on Tuesday, collecting Rs 38.25 cr.
Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gun down 200 people with machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). His unhealthy relationship with his father impacts his relationship with his wife (played by Rashmika Mandanna).
Although Animal is doing phenomenal business, it has been hit by controversy. The film has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users. With scenes like Ranbir asking Tripti Dimri to lick his shoe, making a controversial statement about pads and going naked for the camera, Animal has been the subject of debate since its release. Ranbir Kapoor is yet to comment on the reactions the film has been receiving.
