Anurag Kashyap Calls Bollywood Out For 'Zamindari' System, Says 'I Won't Make Anyone My Slave'
Anurag Kashyap is producing a short film Bebaak starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sara Hashmi. He opened up about Zamindari system in Bollywood.

Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for his next project titled Bebaak. He is producing the short film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sara Hashmi. It focuses on patriarchy in the society. Well, in a recent conversation with ETimes, Anurag Kashyap spoke about the patriarchal system prevailing in Bollywood. He even mentioned that people in the industry want to own others and take charge of what they do in their lives.

Talking to ETimes, Anurag pointed out that instead of using the word ‘patriarchy’ for the film industry, he uses the word ‘Zamindari’. He thinks there is a “sense of ownership and wanting to own people” in the industry and sometimes he also gets advised on getting into a contract with the new people he is working with and decide about the profit sharing. But the filmmaker says that is not his style of working. I will not make anyone my slave,” Kashyap told the publication. He said he not only lets people go but in fact, pushes them to go if they do not do that themselves. He thinks that while the new filmmakers are “empowering”, the old ones believe in “ownership” and behave like, “I gave you a chance, don’t do this, don’t do that.”

To note, Bebaak was premiered as part of JioCinema Film festival also.

Well, in December 2021, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap announced that he was making a film with National Award-winning actor Kriti Sanon. It was reported that the film is an action thriller and is a remake of Hollywood classic Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 classic Kill Bill. However, the Gangs Of Wassepur filmmaker had clarified to News18 that the film is not a remake of Kill Bill, “It’s not a remake, it’s not even a homage. You’ll get to know (what it is) when I make it. It’s foolish to remake a classic,” he had stated.

Last year, it was reported that the film which was going to be produced by Nikhil Dwivedi had been shelved due to creative differences. Now, in an exclusive conversation with News18, Kashyap has denied it. “The rumours are amongst the media. We never said that we were not making the film. People don’t know anything and start a discussion,” he said.
