Hansal Mehta opened up about working with Manoj Bajpayee in Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar and said that he was very moody on the sets of the film. Hansal and Manoj collaborated in the 2000 comedy film which was seen by only a few. The filmmaker recalled the shoot and said that Manoj behaved ‘badly’ on sets and people on sets used to run away from him. He added that Manoj is not a bad person and has a good heart.
Speaking on a year-end roundtable organised by Cinema Express, Hansal revealed he enjoys working with people that he gets along with and gave Rajkumar Rao’s example. “It’s about the connection that you feel,” he said before bringing up Manoj Bajpayee’s name. “Manoj has major mood swings. We made Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! in 2000, and he was a pain in that film,” he said.
“But at heart, he’s a nice guy. He’s not a bad person. You get that vibe. When we were working together, I used to get very irritated. I would ask, ‘Manoj, why are you behaving like this?’ That was the time when Manoj would take the character and just go. I don’t know how he decided that the character should be irritable, but he thrust it on everyone. Everyone used to run away from him. Saurabh (Shukla) used to be like, ‘I went to speak to him and he was mean. What’s wrong with him?’” he added.
Saurabh Shukla and Manoj worked together in Satya and reunited for Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar. It took Manoj and Hansal over a decade to reunite for Aligarh. Released in 2015, Hansal has said that Aligarh was one of his fondest movies. Looking forward, Hansal is set to release The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, while Manoj will be seen in the black comedy series Killer Soup.
