Ji Chang-wook And Go Hyun-jung To Appear In Thriller Series The Mantis? Find Out
Ji Chang-wook received an offer for La Mante but had to decline due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts. Go Hyun-jung is now reportedly in talks for the lead role.

Korean actor Ji Chang-wook’s recent decision to decline the offer to play the male lead in the upcoming Korean adaptation of the French thriller La Mante has left fans and industry insiders buzzing. On January 9, TenAsia reported that the actor, widely known for his versatility and dynamic performances, was initially set to take on the pivotal role in the series. However, the anticipation surrounding Ji Chang-wook’s involvement took a turn when a representative from his agency, Spring Company, clarified the situation. According to the spokesperson, while Ji Chang-wook indeed received an offer for La Mante, he had to decline due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts.

This revelation disappointed fans who were looking forward to seeing the actor in a new and challenging role following his recent success in the JTBC drama Welcome to Samdalri. In this drama, Ji Chang Wook’s portrayal of Cho Yong-pil, a weather forecaster at the Jeju Meteorological Administration, received acclaim for its passion and depth, reports Soompi.

The plot of Welcome to Samdalri revolves around a once-popular photographer, Jo Sam Dal, who loses his dignity due to an incident. She now returns to her hometown, a place she always wanted to avoid. Here she meets her long-lost childhood friend Jo Yong-pil, played by Ji Chang-wook.

In the midst of this development, attention has also shifted to actress Go Hyun-jung, who is now reportedly in talks for the lead role in La Mante. The actress, recognised for her captivating performance as Kim Momi in Netflix’s Mask Girl, is currently reviewing the offer from the production.

Mask Girl, released in August 2023, portrays the turbulent life of Kim Mo-mi, an ordinary office worker with a complex about her appearance. The character covers her face with a mask every night and becomes entangled in unintended incidents while working as an internet broadcast BJ.

Talking about the much-anticipated series itself, the Korean adaptation of La Mante is based on the French thriller series of the same name. The plot revolves around a woman who is a former serial killer but has been imprisoned for a long time now. As a series of murders with her distinctive style unfolds, the police approach her to assist in solving the cases, creating a gripping narrative.

The original French-language miniseries was released in 2017 on Netflix and has received much praise ever since.
