Vicky Kaushal On 'Privileged' Actors Pretending To Be Middle-Class For 'Relatability': 'Audience Can See...'
The Great Indian Family starring Vicky Kaushal and Manushi Chhillar is scheduled to release in theatres on Friday, September 22.

Vicky Kaushal is currently gearing up for the release of his second film this year. The actor’s 2023 releases – The Great Indian Family and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke – feature the lives of middle-class individuals and the daily struggles their families endure. Although Vicky Kaushal comes from a filmy family since his father, Sham Kaushal, is a celebrated action director in Bollywood, the actor himself has had a humble upbringing. Vicky grew up away from the glitz and glam of Bollywood. He recently spoke about whether privileged actors pretend to be “relatable” to avoid being hated.

Vicky told Instant Bollywood, “No, I don’t think so. I have many friends from the industry… Right now, the thing is that the audience can see through it. How long can you keep the pretence on? A day? Two days? Four weeks, a year? And it’s a very tiring process also.”

Vicky mentioned that the audience doesn’t hate the privilege that certain people hold, but only the dishonesty surrounding it. He said, “If you pretend to be someone you’re not, that’s what they hate. If you’re true to yourself, and that’s what you present, nobody will have (any complaints). That’s what I believe. That’s what I, as an audience member, always relate to. I don’t think about whether someone is actually middle class or not. If someone isn’t genuine, even if they’re a middle-class person, then you can’t relate with them.”

Meanwhile, The Great Indian Family is scheduled to release in theatres on Friday, September 22. According to the makers, “The Great Indian Family is a simple, small-town story that will touch your hearts. Set in the heartland of India, it is a story about the unbreakable bond that family members share with each other.”

The comedy-drama will also feature Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Sadiya Siddiqui, Alka Amin, Srishti Dixit, Bhuvan Arora, Ashutosh Ujjwal and Bharti Perwani in prominent roles. The film is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
