In Tamil Nadu Today, PM Modi Will Inaugurate Bonanza of Infra Projects Across India Over Next 2 Months
Senior government officials told News18 that the PM will be unveiling many more infrastructure projects across the country over the next two months and various ministries are working overtime towards the same. This will include sectors like road and highway projects, aviation, railways, petroleum and natural gas, and telecom among others

The next two months are expected to see a bonanza of infrastructure projects being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country, in what government officials are describing as a ‘campaign of Viksit Bharat’ before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

PM Narendra Modi will be in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 20,000 crore. This is his first visit to South India in the New Year and he will be going to Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep and Kerala over two days. Just last week, the PM had unveiled projects worth Rs 15,700 crore in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Last month, Modi was in Varanasi to inaugurate projects worth Rs 19,150 crore and also in Gujarat where he unveiled the new Surat Airport and the Surat Diamond Bourse.

Senior government officials told News18 that the PM will be unveiling many more infrastructure projects across the country over the next two months and various ministries are working overtime towards the same. This will include sectors like road and highway projects, aviation, railways, petroleum and natural gas, and telecom among others. The PM is expected to tour multiple states to unveil these projects before the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls comes into force probably in March.

“This will also give the message that for the BJP government, development is a pan-country story and there is no north-south divide as the Congress party wants to portray. The PM is inaugurating big projects in many Opposition-ruled states as well and it shows how the Centre has worked for the people on the ground,” a senior BJP leader and Union Minister told News18. He said his ministry had prepared a list of projects that are ready for inauguration by the Prime Minister by February.

This is also part of fulfilling the Rs 10.5 lakh crore capex budget announced in the last Union Budget – various infrastructure ministries have been on an overdrive to spend money under this count and accelerate the spend on the infrastructure projects.

PM’s Message in 2023

The PM had in July directed ministries to work in mission mode for completing big infrastructure projects before January 26, 2024 — this was during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by the PM. Major focus since has been given to 42 mega infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 5000 crore or more, whose completion is aimed by January 26, 2024.

The PM will be inaugurating many of these projects over the next two months –like the Chenab Bridge in J&K, the Srinagar-Baramullah rail line project, Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway and the Dwarka Expressway.

The government has already undertaken the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ for the saturation of central government schemes among beneficiaries across the country. “The effort is to ensure that the benefits of the policies should show as results on the ground,” a senior government official told News18.
