Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme: The Rs 20,000-crore awards for IntelliSmart Infrastructure include installing around 1.7 crore smart meters in four states -- Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Gujarat

IntelliSmart Infrastructure has said it has been awarded India’s largest smart metering project under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The Rs 20,000-crore contract includes installing around 1.7 crore smart meters in four states — Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Gujarat.

“In Uttar Pradesh, IntelliSmart has been awarded the largest smart metering project in the country by volume under RDSS. As part of the project, IntelliSmart will install 67 lakh smart meters in 14 districts falling under the jurisdiction of Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited,” the Gurugram-based company said in a statement dated December 5.

In Gujarat, IntelliSmart has secured the Letter of Award (LoA) for the implementation of end-to-end smart metering solutions from Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) for a total of 51 lakh prepaid smart meters, it said.

In Assam, the company has won the LoA for 15 lakh smart meters, secured through competitive bidding, from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited. Assam is also a success story for IntelliSmart where it had earlier secured India’s first competitively bid smart metering project under DBFOOT arrangement for over 6 lakh smart meters and have already achieved more than 60 percent meter installation in record time, IntelliSmart Infrastructure stated.

In Bihar, IntelliSmart has won a project to install 36 lakh smart meters for South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited.

IntelliSmart Infrastructure builds a strong portfolio of smart metering projects, with a portfolio size close to Rs 20,000 crore.

Anil Rawal, MD & CEO of IntelliSmart, said, “This (smart metering) is one of the leading most power sector digitalisation programmes across the globe and shall go a long way not only to improve the financial and operational health of the distribution companies but would also be critical for success of large-scale renewables and e-mobility in the grid. These large projects once again reiterate the confidence of government in the capabilities of IntelliSmart in pioneering digitalisation in the power sector and becoming the most preferred digital partner for the utilities.”

He added that the successful implementation of the smart metering projects will also help the country realise the net-zero commitments and will support the energy transition endeavour.

The total duration of the smart meter installation project under the RDSS scheme is 8-10 years, which includes 27 months of meter installation.

IntelliSmart Infrastructure is a joint venture of the National Investment Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
