Delhi Capitals, who are yet to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title, have again opted to make some major decisions yet also attempt to keep the core of their squad intact ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
Delhi Capitals had already parted ways with their assistant coaches Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson. DC also held a training session for their young players at the Jadavpur University second Campus Cricket Association of Bengal ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Rishabh Pant is expected to get fit in time for the next season of the IPL after having missed last season due to the injuries he sustained during a car accident. He is likely to get him the captaincy back too and has been retained. Along with him, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel will continue with the Capitals. Other Indian stars like Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Abhishek Porel have also kept their place.
Following a poor season this past campaign, DC made the big decision to bring in major changes as they released an entire team’s worth of 11 players.
Manish Pandey is one name that has caught the eye of the Delhi faithful as he has been offloaded for this coming season.
Despite their poor form, DC have kept their faith Prithvi Shaw but off-loaded Sarfaraz Khan.
This upcoming season will prove to be one that would make or break his career, as DC seems to have instilled faith in his abilities to lead from up front, offloading a handful of batters such as Pandey and Rossouw.
Jamaican Rovman Powell, who did not receive many opportunities to truly make an impact on the team, has also been released by DC.
The IPL 2024 auction will be held place in the United Arab Emirates on December 19, 2023, which is the first time it is being held outside India.
