After a close aide of the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, who is facing allegations of sexual assault, was elected the new president of the wrestling body, wrestlers expressed their disappointment.
Sanjay Singh won 40 out of 47 votes defeating Anita Sheoran, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist who had the full support of top wrestlers who had staged protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations.

- “Whatever awards I have won for the country, I have won with your blessings, I will always be grateful to all you countrymen. Goodbye to wrestling,” Malikkh later said in an X post.

- “We are really sad that even after fighting such a long battle we have not been able to get justice. I do not know how is justice given in this country. We tried everything from closed rooms to the streets we tried everything,” said Vinesh Phogat.
