Amid the growing incidents of attack on Indian missions abroad, especially the UK and Canada, the UK BJP has requested the Rishi Sunak government to take “resolute and immediate action” for the safety of Indian diplomats.
The letter written by Kuldeep Shekhawat, President Overseas Friends of BJP UK, accessed by News18, shows the developments pointed out to the minister of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the “root causes underpinning the recurrence of these incidents, identifying and holding accountable those who imperil the safety of Indian diplomats”.
The letter also suggested to improve the security measures around diplomatic missions and residences to “forestall any future threats or attacks”. “Foster close collaboration with diplomatic missions and their representatives to address security apprehensions comprehensively and ensure the safety of Indian diplomats,” it added.
“We beseech you to accord this matter your immediate attention, recognising the paramount importance of the safety and security of Indian diplomats. Your leadership holds the potential to instigate significant change, ensuring that the United Kingdom remains an exemplar of upholding the principles of the Vienna Convention, safeguarding the rule of law, and preserving international diplomatic standards,” it said.
Recently, the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, was stopped from entering a Gurdwara in Scotland. Shekhawat had called on the British government to take the “strongest possible action” on Khalistani elements who want to disturb the peace and communal harmony of the UK.
He further said the Khalistanis are trying to divide the Hindus and Sikhs who have been living peacefully. “We condemn in strongest words about what these Khalistanis are trying to do. They are trying to drive a wedge between the communities, the Indian communities. They don’t want a peaceful coexistence of Hindu and Sikh community,” Shekhawat had told ANI.
