Skoda has unveiled exterior design concepts of the new Kodiaq SUV ahead of its global launch next week.
These sketches follow the release of photos of the interiors and engine details by the manufacturer. The second-generation Kodiaq will be offered in 5 and 7-seat configurations. The vehicle will make its premiere on October 4 as part of a generational upgrade and will sport an updated design.
The first generation Kodiaq with a petrol engine is currently on sale in the country, with prices ranging from Rs 38.5 lakh to Rs 41.95 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). It competes with vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian.
Skoda Kodiaq SUV: Exterior Design And Dimensions
The concept designs reveal the exterior of the SUV, with the front sporting the distinctive Skoda grille featured on cars such as the Slavia and Kushaq. The Kodiaq will have split LED matrix headlamps of the second generation. The SUV will feature boxy dimensions, replete with squared-off wheel arches. The wheels will be offered in four sizes, ranging from a normal 17-inch to a more showy 20-inch.
In the rear, Skoda has disclosed that the D-pillar (back roof pillar) will be available in a dark chrome finish as an option. The C-shaped tail-light design, which was not evident in prior camouflage images, is also new towards the back. A red strip connects the taillights, with Skoda branding placed above it, as seen on previous cars from the firm.
The new Kodiaq will be 4,758mm long, which is 61mm and 59mm longer than the previous 5 and 7-seat variants, respectively. However, the measurements of the height, breadth, and wheelbase remain unaltered.
Skoda Kodiaq SUV: Interior And Features
We know from prior interior details that the Kodiaq will include physical controls for the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system and other aspects, a trend that is slowly making its way back to mass-production vehicles. The console has three knobs, the outer two of which regulate temperature and seat ventilation. As standard, the centre knob controls volume, fan speed, and driving modes, and the vehicle will also include a 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster.
Skoda Kodiaq SUV: Powertrain
The Skoda Kodiaq will be available with a variety of powertrains, including petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). There will be two petrol engines available: a 1.5-litre TSI engine with a mild hybrid system and a 204 bhp, 2.0-litre TSI engine with four-wheel drive.
In addition, Skoda will offer two diesel powertrains: a 2.0-litre TDI engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine will be offered in two tuning levels, with the entry-level version producing 150 bhp and the performance version producing 193hp with a four-wheel-drive system.
The last powertrain option will be a plug-in hybrid, which will combine the 1.5-liter TSI engine with a 25.7kWh battery to produce 204 bhp. This will be connected to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. According to the manufacturer, the PHEV would have an electric-only range of more than 100 km.
