2G mess: Moily blames it on Mahajan, Shourie
Law minister blamed the policies of former communications ministers for the 2G scandal.

Hubli: Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Monday blamed the policies of Pramod Mahajan and Arun Shourie, former communications ministers in the NDA government, for the 2G spectrum allocations scandal.

"UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government cannot be faulted (for the scandal)," he told reporters in Hubli (Karnataka), a day after Shourie said he would appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to give his version of the developments surrounding the allocation of the airwaves. Hubli is about 400 km from Bengaluru.

Moily asserted the UPA government had followed the policy formulated in 2001 by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government in 2G spectrum allocation.

He said the spectrum was "allocated as per the guidelines formulated by NDA government, by Pramod Mahajan and Arun Shourie when they were telecom ministers".

Late Pramod Mahajan was communications minister between 2001-2003 and Shourie succeeded him.

Shourie has denied any wrongdoing by him and asserted that UPA had not followed the policy he had laid down.

The 2G spectrum allocation scam has resulted in resignation of communications minister A Raja, who belongs to DMK. He has been arrested with two others and is undergoing interrogation by the CBI.
