74.18% voter turnout in Dharamsala Municipal Corporation polls
The highest polling was reported from Bhagsunag with 87.73 per cent turnout and the lowest from Kotwali Bazar at 66.04 per cent during Dharamsala municipal election.

Dharamsala: An estimated 74.18 per cent of the 31,761 voters on Sunday exercised their franchise in the elections to the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation.

Out of the total 31,761 electorate, 23,566 voted in the elections to the newly-formed body, Ritesh Chouhan, Deputy Commissioner Kangra, said.

"The highest polling was reported from Bhagsunag with 87.73 per cent turnout and the lowest from Kotwali Bazar at 66.04 per cent," he said.

As many as 113 candidates from 17 wards are in the fray. The polling started at 7.00 am today and closed at 3.00 pm. The result will be declared later this evening, Chauhan, who is also returning officer, said.

Electronic Voting Machines were used in polling, he said.

Out of the 17 wards, nine are reserved for women, including one ward each for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste women.

Mcleod Ganj, Kotwali Bazar, Sports complex, Sakoh, Ramnagar, Dari, Badol, Khaniara and Khajanchi Mohalla are reserved for women, Chouhan said.

The leaders from both Congress and BJP expressed confidence that their respective parties will emerge victorious in the polls.

"Congress shall emerge winners in this election," local MLA and state Minister of Urban Development said.

BJP leaders Shanta Kumar and P K Dhumal, who are camping in the city also predicted a major win for their party.
