Several students and alumni of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Friday staged protest outside the Information and Broadcasting Ministry at Shastri Bhawan in the national capital over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairperson of the institution.
Currently the students are meeting I&B Ministry officials and later they will also meet I&B Minister Arun Jaitley to discuss the matter.
The students were taken into preventive custody reportedly ahead of a meeting between representatives of FTII students and I&B Ministry.
The FTII students have been protesting against the appointment of Chauhan, saying he lacked "stature and vision" to head the premiere institution.
A students' association spokesman said they were still deliberating on composition of the delegation for the proposed talks and the date could only be confirmed thereafter.
Apart from Chauhan, the FSA has also objected to the appointments of five members of the FTII Society selected under the "persons of eminence" category for their alleged RSS and BJP connections and "lack of merit" in the field of cinema.
