New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) are ready to do business with the Congress or the Third Front after elections.
Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh told CNN-IBN on Tuesday the Congress would have to make the “first move” if it wants to talk with his party for support. “If the Congress wants to talk to us, then we will see. We will wait for the Congress to make first move towards us,” he said.
But the SP leader is willing to talk to the Left Front too--if the Communists are willing to dismiss Bahajan Samaj Party leader Mayawati’s government in Uttar Pradesh. “I am in constant touch with my friend (CPI-M leader) Sitaram Yechury. But if the Third Front wants us they will have to get rid of the BSP (government),'' he said.
Ram Vilas Paswan, whose party has an election alliance with the SP and the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, said he is open to working with the Third Front if the UPA doesn’t get a majority in Parliament.
Paswan said his alliance with RJD leader Lalu Prasad and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was “unbreakable” and they together would take a decision on which alliance to support after elections.
"LJP and RJD are part of the UPA and Samajwadi Party is supporting the coalition. We will remain united and work for installation of a secular government at the Centre," Paswan said.
"We--me, RJD and Mualayam Singh--will stay together. Without Mulayam Singh’s support, how can a government be formed at the Centre?" said Paswan.
Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad insisted that Lalu Prasad and Paswan were still with the UPA and would support it after elections. “None of them have left us. Had Lalu left us, he would not have been a minister. That means he is still in the UPA. Paswan, had he left us, he wouldn’t have been a minister. He continues to be a minister that means he continues to be with the UPA,” said Azad.
