A total of 106 (23%) of the 456 candidates contesting in second phase of Bihar Assembly elections are crorepatis. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United (JDU) leads the pack with 10 (77%) of its 13 candidates having assets in crores, as per the affidavits analysed by Association for Democratic Reforms.
Nine (56%) out of 16 fielded by BJP, eight (62%) out of 13 Rashtriya Janata Dal candidates, eight (42%) out of 19 Samajwadi Party candidates, three (50%) out of six Congress candidates, 4 (31%) out of 13 candidates of CPI, 15(47%) out of 32 candidates of BSP and 22 (15%) out of 146 Independents have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
The average asset of candidates contesting in the second phase of elections is Rs 1.18 crore. Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 16 BJP candidates is Rs 4.19 crore, 32 BSP candidates have average assets of Rs 2.78 crore, 13 JDU candidates have average assets worth of Rs 1.65 crore, six Congress candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.44 crore and 13 RJD candidates have average assets worth of Rs 1.89 crore.
The average asset of 19 Samajwadi Party candidates are Rs 2.12 crore, 13 CPI candidates have average asset of Rs 61.88 lakh and 146 Independents have average assets of Rs 82.46 lakh.
The top three candidates with highest assets are BSP candidate from Aurangabad Kaushal Singh with Rs 45.83 crore, BJP's Gopal Narayan Singh contesting from Nabinagar with Rs 42.70 crore and Aarakshan Virodhi Party Arwal candidate Lalit Mohan Singh with Rs 34.28 crore.
The three candidates with lowest assets are Communist Party of India (CPI) Nabinagar candidate Ram Ashish Ram with just Rs 1,000, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha candidate Raj Kumar Paswan from Bodh Gaya (SC) with Rs 3,000 and
Munni Devi contesting from Barachatti (SC) on Krantikari Vikas Dal ticket with Rs 7,000
Age details of candidates:
A total of 323 (71%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 128 (28%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. Five candidates have not disclosed their age details.
There are 31 female candidates contesting in the second phase of Bihar Assembly elections. It comes to just 7% of the 456 candidates.
Education details of candidates: 219 (48%) candidates have declared that they have an education qualification between 5th pass and 12th pass. While 207 (45%)
candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above, 30 candidates have declared themselves to be simple literates.
While 30 candidates are just literate, five are 5th class pass, 31 8th pass, 83 10th pass, 100 12th pass, 110 graduate, 23 graduates with professional degrees, 51 post graduates and 23 are doctorate.
