Varanasi: As part of its plan to woo dalits ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017, BJP president Amit Shah will on Tuesday have meal with a dalit family in a village in Sevapuri Assembly segment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi lok sabha constituency.

On his way to Allahabad from the Varanasi Airport on Tuesday, Shah will make a small halt at Jogiyapur village in Sevapuri Assembly segment to share a meal with a dalit family, said BJPs Eastern UP Media-Incharge Sanjay Bhardwaj.

Shah is expected to share the afternoon meal in the village with Girjaprasad Bind and Ikbal Bind's family, who belong to the dalit community, Bhardwaj said.

Earlier in May, Shah took a dip in the Kshipra river with Dalit saints, reaching out to the community at the 'Simhasth Kumbh'.

Mixing with the multitude, Shah had asserted the BJP-led NDA government was committed to strengthening the culture and tradition of India.

Shah was joined by Dalit saints, including Balyogi Umesh Nath Giri of Balmiki Dham, besides other Hindu seers during the customary dip in the river billed by the party as 'Samrasta Snan' (bath for social harmony). After the holy dip he also had a 'Samrasta Bhoj' (social harmony feast) with Dalit sadhus.

"BJP is the only party which believes in strengthening the country's culture and fostering the motto of world as one abode, one family (Vasudhaiva kutumbakam)," Shah had said.
