New Delhi: There is no end to trouble for Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi's UK stay permit controversy. The Bharatiya Janata Party seemed to have sidelined itself as sources said that the party has asked its leaders to remain silent on charges against the Chief Minister.

The BJP is treading carefully and wanted to ascertain facts in the charges being levelled against her. Sources added that party President Amit Shah has asked Vasundhara not to interact with the media.

After External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj helped Modi on 'humanitarian ground', Vasundhara came in line of fire as documents released by Modi's legal team alleged that she helped the cricket czar to get permit to stay in the United Kingdom. The documents said Vasundhara allegedly filed application backing Modi in 2011 when she was the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.

The documents released by Modi's team revealing Vasundhara's role said that the testimony is conditional and it will not be known to Indian authorities.

It was also revealed that Vasundhara government signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Portugal hospital where Modi's wife was treated. The government signed an MoU with Lisbon-based Champalimaud Foundation on October 2, 2014, two months after Modi's wife underwent treatment for cancer.

Vasundhara has also been caught in financial scandal as a PIL claimed that Modi invested Rs 11 crore in her son Dushyant's company in 2008.

Backing Vasundhara, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "We need to inquire allegations against Raje. There is no conclusive proof. Vasundhara raje will react to all charges."

The Congress continues to intensify attack on the Narendra Modi government and is adamant on its demand for her resignation. Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, "We will hold protests across the state against the Vasundhara Raje government. She has no moral right to be the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Sushma Swaraj and Raje should resign from their posts. The BJP is supporting a criminal who is absconding."
