The BJP chief also claimed his party would introduce the National Register of Citizens, right now restricted to Assam, all over the country if it wins the Lok Sabha elections.

Kalimpong: Condemning the Opposition’s criticism over the Balakot air strike on terror camps in Pakistan and highlighting the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday stressed his party will scrap Article 370 after forming the next government at the Centre.

Addressing a public meet at Kalimpong, Shah said, “Mamata Banerjee is criticising the Balakot air strike for her political interest. She is trying to appease the minority voters. Recently, her ally (in the ‘mahagathbandhan’), National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, said that Kashmir would have a separate prime minister one day. I would like to ask you, do you want a separate prime minister in Kashmir? I want Mamataji to clear her stand on his comment.”

“I would like to tell all those condemning Centre’s action against terrorists and to ensure peace in the Valley -- we will remove Article 370 from Kashmir after forming the next BJP government,” he added.

Shah visited Kalimpong to campaign for Darjeeling Lok Sabha candidate Raju Singh Bisht. On March 24, instead of MP SS Ahluwalia, the party had announced Bisht as its candidate, reportedly since locals were upset due to Ahluwalia’s protracted absence from his constituency.

On the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Shah said, “We are committed to implement NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill in West Bengal. We will grant citizenship to all Hindu refugees.”

The BJP has already clarified that NRC and illegal infiltration from Bangladesh forms a part of its main agenda in Bengal for the elections. The party currently has two Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, including Asansol and Darjeeling.
