Break ties with Sena, Cong suggests BJP
Break ties with Sena, Cong suggests BJP
BJP has been having close ties with Shiv Sena for over 15 years.

New Delhi: The Congress on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should sever its alliance with the Shiv Sena "in the interest of accountability" against its partner's 'Mumbai for Marathis' policy.

"In the interest of accountability, you (the BJP) must break up any alliance (with Shiv Sena)," party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.

He said the BJP has been having close ties with Shiv Sena for over 15 years and they had fought elections together.

Singhvi termed as "somersaults" and "hypocrisy" the statements of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders opposing discrimination on the basis of language.

"Indeed, the BJP and the RSS in the context of their current somersault and volte-face themselves preached religious exclusiveness along with geographical exclusiveness," he said, adding that they talked of rule by certain majority, contrary to the country's ethos of secularism.

Accusing the BJP of "misleading the public", Singhvi said the party along with Shiv Sena and RSS indulged in "multi-speak" with different nuances to create confusion. "All this is intended to create confusion," he said.
