Kishanganj: Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Thursday asserted that the party believed in secularism and inclusive development. She claimed that Congress had accepted most of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee which focused on removing the development deficit which some minority communities suffer from.
While addressing a rally at Muslim-dominated Kishanganj after inaugurating an Aligarh Muslim University campus, Sonia said, "Though the party is not in power in Bihar, but the UPA government has given Rs 1,24,000 crore to the state."
The Congress chief also attacked the BJP claiming that the latter wanted to divide the society in the name of religion. "The BJP has only one motive and that is to gain power," she said.
Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) centre in Kishanganj. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also present at the inauguration ceremony.
