Mamata has made alleged land scam in Rajarhat adjoining Kolkata a new battleground after Singur and Nandigram.

Kolkata: CPI(M) and BJP have ganged up against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the 2G spectrum allocation issue, key UPA ally Mamata Banerjee charged on Saturday.

"They are attacking the government over the CAG report (on the spectrum allocation) but over the last 34 years of the uninterrupted rule, the Left Front has disallowed the opposition to raise or disuss CAG strictures against the government in the Assembly," Mamata, the Railway Minister said in Kolkata.

"The Left Front government's track record is awful as it has tried to stonewall all inquiries into charges of corruption against the government," the Trinamool Congress chief alleged.

Mamata, who has made alleged land scam in Rajarhat adjoining Kolkata a new battleground after Singur and Nandigram, demanded a thorough probe into the alleged land scam at Rajharhat-New Town which has been renamed Jyoti Basu Nagar by the state government.

She suggested the Centre intervene so that an inquiry was held into the 'Rajarhat land scam'.

"I will request the Centre to see that there is an inquiry into the huge land land scam over land acquisition at Rajarhat. If inquiry could be held into the land scam in Maharashtra, why not in West Bengal?" she said apparently referring to Adarsh Housing Society scam and in a dig at West Bengal Housing Minister Gautam Deb who has been inviting her to programmes at New Town time and again.

She alleged land was acquired from farmers at a price of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8000 per 'kantha' (size of plot) while it was sold at between Rs 20 lakh to 40 lakh.

"Both BJP and CPI(M) are on good terms always and at the time of elections in West Bengal it takes the help of BJP which put up candidates in a number of places to cut into opposition votes," she claimed.

She alleged that even after acquiring 25,000 acre at Rajarhat forcibly from the farmers, the state government made yet another attempt during the day to acquire more land with the help of the police but were resisted.

"I urge the people to come forward and resist all attempts at more acquisition of land forcibly by the state government," she said. "I will see to it that there is an end to it."

Mamata, whose party is the second largest ally of the UPA-II government, said any issue, including the role of the government, could be discussed in Parliament, to unearth the truth."
